I constantly find myself perplexed, discussing with colleagues how quickly I forget things. It seems my mind randomly selects certain information to retain for a decade, while it throws other details away. It can be something I learned, a special moment, an event, even something bad someone said to me. I'm very guilty of this.
To work around that, I decided to take some action. First, I began taking pictures of nice random things, despite my lack of interest in cameras. Particularly after a year full of life-changing events, there are times when you struggle recall a special moment. I'm happy to share some special pictures here.
In a professional setting, I began keeping a daily logbook of all my activities in 2020, and it has since become a routine.
In these monthly documents, I log all my work, decisions, feedbacks, and plans. Similar to my brag document, it helps me stay organized for monthly reviews with my leader or any other activities that require this information.
Here's a list of example activities I maintain in these documents. I can add one or a few of them, but never everything on the same day.
- Daily Tasks
- Meeting notes and preps
- 1-1 notes and feedbacks
- Draft of technical documents
- Technical/Product decisions
- To-to list of the next day
- Interview Feedbacks
